The 'who am I' format is older than the internet and survives because it inverts the usual direction of a question. Instead of naming a creature and asking about it, you accumulate clues and let the listener converge.
The craft is in the ordering. Each clue narrows the field without giving it away, and the final clue should feel like confirmation rather than revelation. Give away too much on line one and there is nothing left to solve.
